Southwest Airlines says its operations will return to normal Friday, after problems started last week that led the airline to cancel thousands of flights across the country over several days.
Those cancellations included many at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP)- however, there was a different story in the Twin Cities early Friday morning.
At least 18 Southwest flights are scheduled to leave MSP Friday, and at this point, it looks like there aren’t any hiccups. While there were two delays for MSP flights as of 11 a.m. Friday, the board didn’t show a single Southwest flight cancellation for the airline – the first time all week.
It was news many Southwest travelers had long awaited, with some having been stranded for days, unable to get on a flight.

The canceled flights have likely affected more than a million travelers across the country, who say check-in went smoothly Friday at MSP, and it seems like a normal day.
“The flight that we’re on canceled for four days in a row, and this flight is making it forward. With a couple of prayers, it’s up,” said one traveler who spoke to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.
Earlier in the week, the check-in area for Southwest seemed like a ghost town, with no flights leaving, but many people could be seen checking bags Friday morning.
Drew Johnson and Aleena Sarwana, who spoke with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Friday, said they were eager to get home to Denver since a family member was sick. Although they booked a flight on another airline to get home, Southwest is back up and running, so they’re staying with their original flight, and hoping to be reimbursed.
“We got notified early Monday that our flight was canceled and so now we’re hoping that we make it out this morning. Southwest sent us a bunch of e-mails that said, don’t worry it will be fine, so we’re hoping it will be fine,” said Drew and Aleena.
Security check lines were long Friday morning, so if you’re traveling, you will want to get to the airport early.
