Charge dropped against woman accused of aiding in double homicide, charges to be refiled

Prosecutors say they have dismissed a charge against a second person who they had previously connected to a 2022 double homicide but say she will be recharged in the future.

Court records show an omnibus hearing was originally scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19, for 28-year-old Lerita Simone Rayford. However, that hearing was canceled due to one count of aiding an offender to avoid arrest being dismissed by prosecutors.

According to a dismissal filing, prosecutors dismissed Rayford’s case because the offender who she had previously been alleged to have aided also had charges dismissed. However, prosecutors say Rayford will be recharged when a shooter has been charged.

As previously reported by 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS, Deijuan Anthony McCaleb-Robinson of Minneapolis also had charges dismissed earlier this year. He had been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and one count of illegal possession of a fully automatic handgun for the deaths of 51-year-old Mcconda Deion Robinson and 21-year-old Kayvon Jemell Williams in May.

Those charges were dropped by prosecutors, who said they weren’t able to prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

A complaint stated Rayford was suspected of driving people away from the shooting, which happened on May 14 near the intersection of West Broadway and North Bryant avenues.
