Here is a list of those who have announced their candidacy, so far:
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES
Scott Jensen
- Former Sen. Scott Jensen is running for his party’s gubernatorial nomination. He has also received the Minnesota’s GOP endorsement.
Kendall Qualls
- Qualls, a Republican businessman and Army veteran, announced his campaign in January 2022.
Rich Stanek
- Former Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek has joined the Republican field for governor, announcing his candidacy in February 2022.
DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES
Gov. Tim Walz
- Walz announced his reelection campaign in October 2021.
THIRD-PARTY CANDIDATES
Cory Hepola
- Minnesota media personality Cory Hepola announced he is running for governor as a third-party candidate in March 2022.
CANDIDATES NO LONGER RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR
Sen. Michelle Benson
- Benson, R-Ham Lake, declared she was running for governor at a campaign event in Blaine.
Sen. Paul Gazelka
- Former Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka announced his candidacy after stepping down as majority leader.
Mike Marti
- Marti, the owner of Marti Electric in Kasson, announced his candidacy in May 2021.
Mayor Mike Murphy
- Mike Murphy announced he was running for governor in February 2021, less than a month after he was sworn in as mayor of Lexington.
Neil Shah
- Neil Shah, a dermatologist based in St. Anthony, announced his candidacy in August 2021.
