Dartmouth grad transfer Samuels joining Gophers

The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team is adding another transfer.

The program on Thursday officially announced the addition of Dartmouth graduate transfer Taurus Samuels. He tweeted his commitment on Monday.

“We’re really happy to have someone like Taurus join our Gopher program,” head coach Ben Johnson said. “I’m excited about the level of experience, leadership and versatility he brings to the guard position. Taurus has great skills to play on and off the ball, and give us good depth in our backcourt. As a starter at Dartmouth, he has also shown he’s a natural leader. Taurus will be a great addition to our locker room as we continue to grow our team.”

The 6-foot-1 guard started 23 games for Dartmouth last year, averaging 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game last season after sitting out the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19.

The Gophers continue to use the transfer portal to reshape the roster, also landing Morehead State guard Ta’Lon Cooper and former North Carolina and Prior Lake forward Dawson Garcia.
