Woman convicted of aiding in 2019 murder of Minneapolis realtor
A fifth person who was charged in connection to the 2019 murder of a Minneapolis realtor on New Year’s Eve has been convicted.
Court records show 40-year-old Shante Cheriece Davis has been found guilty of aiding an offender by being an accomplice after the fact.
Documents state Davis waived her right to a jury trial and was found guilty in a stipulated evidence trial of the only charge filed against her. Records show her sentencing hearing is scheduled to begin the morning of Jan. 17, 2023.
Four others — Cedric Berry, Berry Davis, Elsa Segura and Lyndon Wiggins — were each sentenced to serve life in prison and without the possibility of parole for the murder of 28-year-old Monique Baugh.
Berry and Davis were both sentenced on July 12, 2021, while Segura was sentenced on Nov. 9, 2021. Wiggins was sentenced in June of 2022.
According to a criminal complaint, Shante Davis is the wife of Cedric Berry and the sister of Berry Davis. The complaint alleges she helped the others who killed Baugh, including by booking a hotel room for them and driving her husband to pick up the U-Haul that was used to kidnap Baugh.
Baugh was abducted on New Year’s Eve in 2019 while showing a home on the 8300 block of Niagara Avenue in Maple Grove.
An hour later, officers responded to the 1300 block of Russell Avenue North in Minneapolis after a ShotSpotter report. Baugh was found with multiple gunshot wounds and duct tape around one of her wrists. She was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators said they believe Baugh’s boyfriend was the intended victim in a dispute over a record deal with a fellow rapper.
