2 dead, 9 injured in 5 separate shootings in Minneapolis, St. Paul

Update 9/10: The Hennepin County Medical Examiner released reports identifying the two who died following the shootings in Minneapolis Thursday night and early Friday morning.
Cortez Maurice Crumble of Brooklyn Park, 34 years old, was identified as the man who died in the Cedar-Riverside shooting. The report lists a gunshot wound to the torso as the cause of death.
The victim killed in the Near North neighborhood was identified as 16-year-old Jeremiah Lionell Durr. The report states he died from a gunshot wound to the torso.
Police are investigating five separate shootings Thursday night and Friday morning in Minneapolis and St. Paul that left a teenager and man dead and nine other people injured.
Minneapolis police say the two deaths are the 61st and 62nd to be investigated as homicides in 2022.

Minneapolis
CEDAR-RIVERSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD
Police say officers were called to the 1400 block of Washington Avenue South at about 1 a.m. Friday for a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a man in his 30’s, who was described as having life-threatening wounds. Despite being hospitalized at Hennepin Healthcare, he died at the hospital.
In addition, officers say they found a second man with potentially life-threatening injuries. He was also taken to Hennepin Healthcare. His current condition isn’t known.
Police say two other men arrived at Hennepin Health in a vehicle, and both had injuries considered to be non-life-threatening.
According to Minneapolis police, the three men who are hospitalized are all in their 30’s.
An investigation currently shows an altercation happened inside a bar that was having a private party, however, police say the altercation moved outside. At some point, police say gunfire happened both inside and outside of the building.
NEAR NORTH NEIGHBORHOOD
Police say they responded to a deadly shooting at about 8:15 p.m on Plymouth Avenue between Knox and James avenues in the Near North neighborhood of Minneapolis.
Officers found a 16-year-old boy with a life-threatening gunshot wound. He died after being brought to the hospital.
Police add nearby homes and vehicles were also hit by gunfire.
BORDER OF HAWTHORNE AND NEAR NORTH NEIGHBORHOODS
During a news conference, police said around the same time as the fatal Near North shooting, four people were shot at Winner Gas at the intersection of West Broadway and North Lyndale avenues.
One woman and three men were struck by gunfire, police say.
Two of the men suffered what are described as potentially life-threatening injuries, and both arrived at a hospital by separate, private vehicles. Meanwhile, another man and a woman are reportedly expected to survive suffered non-life-threatening gunshot injuries.
St. Paul
BATTLE CREEK NEIGHBORHOOD
St. Paul police say a man is recovering and is in stable condition following what they say is a shooting and robbery Friday morning.
According to police, officers were called to the 2000 block of Creekside Way at around 6:30 a.m. for a report of someone hearing a gunshot and a man screaming.
When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot and assaulted.
The man told officers at an area hospital that he had driven home after a night out with friends in Minneapolis, and after leaving his parked car, multiple suspects approached him and then began assaulting him.
The man added the suspects then shot him and also took his cash.
As of this time, police say they’re still looking into a motive, as well as a description of the suspects. Police add they currently believe there’s no threat to the public
PAYNE-PHALEN NEIGHBORHOOD
In St. Paul, one person was shot near the intersection of Arlington Avenue East and Arkwright Street.
Police were called to the area shortly before 8:30 p.m. for a shots fired call, and when officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot in the chest.
Just after 9 a.m. Friday, police said the man is in stable condition at Regions Hospital, and added he is expected to survive.
Police are still investigating what led up to the shooting, and they are also looking into the identification of a suspect.
Although a suspect wasn’t found, a St. Paul Police K9 found a gun in an area that was covered with brush and trees north of some nearby apartment buildings.
