MnDOT announces short term closure of northbound Hwy 280 to Hwy 36 ramp
Attention drivers: A short term closure will begin late Friday morning on a busy Minnesota road.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced a closure will begin at 10 a.m. at northbound Highway 280 to the ramp for eastbound Highway 36.
The closure is needed so crews can move detached parts of a retaining wall.
MnDOT tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the closure is expected to take one to two hours.
Earlier this week, the agency reported the right two lanes closed north of Industrial Boulevard through the start of the ramp to Highway 36 due to the failure of a cement wall.
A temporary blockade was created to prevent drivers from getting close to the area of the partial collapse.
As previously reported, MnDOT said two of the concrete retaining wall panels had fractured due to drainage issues from recent rainfall. The lower portion of the walls and footings remain intact, MnDOT reports. Sandbags and concrete barriers are in place to prevent additional erosion.
