A crew is in Roseville beginning preliminary repair work after a partial collapse of a retaining wall along Highway 36.

The separated portion of the retaining wall could be seen via a traffic management camera at Interstate 35W.

The crew at the scene is building a temporary blockade to prevent drivers from nearing the area of the partial collapse.

511 says the ramp to Highway 36 is closed, and drivers are asked to use other routes. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) adds the road is down to three lanes between Exit 22 for Industrial Boulevard and MN 280 (Lauderdale).

According to MnDOT, two of the concrete retaining wall panels had fractured due to drainage issues from recent rainfall. The lower portion of the walls and footings remain intact, MnDOT reports. Sandbags and concrete barriers are in place to prevent additional erosion.

MnDOT states the remaining lanes are safe for drivers to travel on. The left lane of Exit 22B will remain open as well.

MnDOT reports it does not yet have an immediate assessment of how long repairs may take, but the agency will provide updates when that information is available.
