The COVID-19 vaccination site at the Mall of America closed on Friday.
The Minnesota Department of Health says, due to how accessible the vaccine is, the site is no longer needed.
Gov. Tim Walz and MDH Commissioner Jan Malcolm visited the site Friday to thank the staff and contractors at the site.
They again urged Minnesotans to get their booster shots and continue to utilize the tools — including the new telehealth option — available to keep COVID-19 at bay.
Additionally, the governor thanked Malcolm for her service leading MDH. Malcolm will be replaced at the start of the new year.
“This has been so difficult but also such a privilege to work with such great people and to serve the state at this time,” Malcolm said.
Since the site opened in February 2021, more than 200,000 people have received the vaccine at Mall of America, MDH says.
The site closed at 8 p.m. on Friday.
