Big Lake man arrested in connection with 2-year-old’s abduction

A Big Lake man has been arrested in connection with the abduction of a 2-year-old boy in Pope County Thursday.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office reported the boy was found safe Thursday evening and an Amber Alert issued following his abduction was canceled around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

After receiving a 911 call Thursday, law enforcement officials reported finding the boy in the 911 caller’s garage in Paynesville.

The boy was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for evaluation and is currently in his mother’s care.

Acting on information learned during the investigation, the Pope County Sheriff’s Office says their deputies arrested the man outside his home just after 11 p.m. Thursday following a brief struggle.

The man was booked into Kandiyohi County Jail on probable cause for kidnapping.

Charges are expected to be filed Friday.

The sheriff’s office reports additional information on the investigation is expected to be released in the coming days.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, FBI, West Central Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, Glenwood Police Department, Starbuck Police Department, Big Lake Police Department and Alexandria Police Department assisted in the investigation.
