Suspect arrested in Prior Lake standoff identified
A man who was arrested after a nearly nine-hour standoff in Prior Lake is facing several charges related to the incident in addition to warrants that were active beforehand.
Police say Sean Michael Rasmussen, 31, turned himself in peacefully Friday night.
Investigators say that Rasmussen fired shots inside the home during the standoff, but they are still determining how many shots were fired.
No one was injured.
Rasmussen was being sought on warrants for first-degree burglary and fleeing police in a motor vehicle.
He could now face several other charges such as reckless discharge of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, burglary, property damage, fleeing police, threats of violence and obstruction with force.
Officers with the Prior Lake Police Department say the incident began when they were called to the Kwik Trip on Fish Point Road at around 1:20 p.m. Friday on a report that the man was digging in the store’s dumpster.
When officers tried to identify the man, the department says he assaulted an officer and tried to draw a gun before running away and breaking into a nearby home.
The residents were able to escape, but the standoff ensued shortly after.
Police say that Rasmussen is in custody at the Scott County Jail as of Saturday afternoon. Officers say he was “uncooperative” during the booking process and that no booking photo is available at this time.
