UPDATE: Assault suspect in custody after hours-long standoff in Prior Lake, no injuries reported

UPDATE: A standoff in Prior Lake is over after a man was taken into police custody, according to the Prior Lake Police Department. Police are no longer asking the public to avoid the area.

No injuries were reported.

Prior Lake Police Chief Steve Frazer said the following in a news release:

“We appreciate the public’s help in staying out of the area and all of the support they showed during this crisis. We are fortunate to have an ending where our officers and the suspect were not harmed. It’s the best possible outcome under the circumstances.”

Police are at the scene of a standoff involving a man in Prior Lake.

According to police, officers were called to the Kwik Trip on Fish Point Road at around 1:20 p.m. Friday on a report that the man was digging in the store’s dumpster.

When officers tried to identify the man, the department says he assaulted an officer and tried to draw a gun before running away and breaking into a nearby home.

Police added that the residents of that home were able to safely escape but the man remains in the home and officers are at the scene.

The public is asked to avoid the area of Blind Lake Road and Turner Avenue.
