State Republican senators discuss bills on public safety, jobs

Republican members of the Minnesota State Senate discussed their public safety bill and the jobs bill on the senate floor Monday.
The jobs bill focuses on spending towards education and job training, including specific funding to support people going into law enforcement.
Meanwhile, the public safety bill also creates a specific “carjacking” offense, which establishes bonuses for police officers.

In addition, the proposal creates a database the public can search on sentences given.
In the House, the DFL public safety plan focuses on community policing, emergency management grants and money for criminal rehabilitation.
