15-year-old bicyclist hit, killed in Cedar Lake Township in July identified
A 15-year-old boy who died after being hit while riding his bicycle in Cedar Lake Township in July has been identified.
Monday, the Hennepin County medical examiner identified the boy as Braxton Sorenson, of Elko New Market.
The crash happened July 1 at the intersection of Zachary Avenue and 260th Street East. Police and firefighters responded to the intersection after receiving a report of an unresponsive bicyclist, identified as Sorenson. Sorenson was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Lakeville man—later identified as 72-year-old Joseph Friedges—was at the scene and told authorities he had hit the bicyclist with his pickup truck.
Friedges was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide—one for driving in a grossly negligent manner and another for driving negligent while under the influence of alcohol.
The medical examiner’s report released Monday stated Sorenson died as a result of multiple blunt force injuries from the crash involving a pickup truck.
