Police investigating 2nd fatal north Minneapolis shooting Friday

Hours after an early-morning shooting left one man dead, Minneapolis police are investigating a second fatal shooting in north Minneapolis on Friday.

Police said the second shooting happened near Emerson and 24th avenues and at least one of the people involved was killed. The shooting marked the 30th homicide in the city this year.

According to Minneapolis police, officers arrived while shots were still being fired and found a man who started running away. Officers were able to catch up to and arrest the suspect. Other officers found a woman and also arrested her.

Police said each of the suspects had a gun.

Officers then found an unconscious man who appeared to be suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. They provided aid until medics arrived but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A Minneapolis Police Department public information officer, who was at the investigation scene, called for an end to gun violence in the community.

“We need community members just to come along and put their arms around the shoulders of their fellow community members and encourage them, those who have a propensity for violence, to reconsider and find other options on dealing with the differences that we have. We want a safe community,” Officer Garrett Parten said.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s name at a later time.

Earlier Friday, police responded to a fatal shooting near North James and West Broadway avenues.
