Thursday evening, the high school and a GoFundMe page identified the student as sophomore Deshaun Hill Jr.
“The gun violence in our community has to stop. Our youth deserve to feel and be safe,” Graff said.
Hill was No. 9 and the quarterback for North’s football team, and No. 13 on the basketball team.
North High School Director of Basketball Operations for boys basketball Trent Witz shared on Twitter that Hill was “gone way too soon!” and that “gun violence is the real pandemic.”
Laurice Walker, Hill’s aunt, wrote in the GoFundMe post that her nephew was an honor roll student, an all-around all-star athlete and “compassionate,” “loving young man.”
“He is the heart of the North community, a representation of what could be, what should be,” she said.
Wednesday, Minneapolis Police said that a 15-year-old was shot in Minneapolis at 12:29 p.m. near North Penn Avenue and Golden Valley Road.
