One of the changes being touted by lawmakers is moving the prosecuting authority of officer-involved deaths to the state attorney general’s office.
An organization representing Minnesota’s prosecutors say they agree.
"The real problem right now is how people view us. They look at it and say the cops and the county attorneys are too close and it appears to them as a conflict of interest. We want to work with the legislature to come up with a system that takes away that appearance of a conflict," said Aaron Jordan, President of Minnesota’s County Attorneys Association.
This comes after Attorney General Keith Ellison was appointed by the governor to oversee Derek Chauvin’s case with Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman.
