Now, officials with M Health Fairview say they’re preparing to expand operations beyond Bethesda Hospital.
Currently, about 60 of its 90 beds have patients with COVID-19.

They’re expecting a surge in cases and are designating areas inside St. Joseph’s in St. Paul and Southdale Hospital in Edina.
"What you’re really doing is you’re taking a group of people with an infectious disease and putting them together in a unit to conserve personal protective equipment and to slow and stop the spread," M Health Fairview Jeoff Will said.
Both hospitals will continue operating emergency and mental health services.
