Minnesota State Fair board to discuss future of 2020 fair Friday

The Minnesota State Fair board of managers is expected to have a meeting Friday to discuss the event’s future in 2020.

An update was posted to the state fair’s website Thursday.

The last update from the fair’s organizers stated in April there was no word whether the event would go on as scheduled or not, but one thing remained certain– restrictions or any sort of changes to the Great Minnesota Get-Together wouldn’t happen.

2020 State Fair’s fate still unclear but don’t expect restrictions, changes if it happens

"Alternate fair dates, a change in duration of the fair, or significant restrictions are not being considered," Minnesota State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer said in a statement back in April.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made a major impact on crowded events, with many county fairs already canceled for the 2020 season.

If the State Fair is canceled, it would be the sixth time in history, according to the fair’s website. The most recent time it was canceled was in 1946, due to the polio epidemic.
