Minnesota House to vote on resolution declaring racism a public health crisis

After advancing from a committee Tuesday, the Minnesota House will vote on a resolution that would declare racism a public health crisis.

According to a news release from the House, the final vote would go to the House floor Monday.

The resolution affirms the House will be active in the "dismantling of racism." The resolution also creates a House Select Committee on the state’s response.

"Black, Indigenous, and people of color have known for generations that the systems in this country were designed to exclude them," said Rep. Ruth Richardson, DFL- Mendota Heights, the author of the resolution. "The devastation we are seeing in our communities today is the result of those systems playing out for hundreds of years."

In June, Hennepin County passed a resolution that declared racism a public health crisis.
