George Floyd’s family to start foundation, commemorate his life through annual homeless event
The family of George Floyd is launching a nonprofit foundation and participating in an annual homeless event to commemorate his life.
According to a news release, the family will participate in Sunday evening’s National Homeless Day event in Minneapolis. The event is also expected to feature the mothers of Philando Castile and Jamar Clark.
“We are honored to launch the George Floyd Memorial Foundation at an annual event that our brother was proud to participate in every year,” said Floyd’s sister Bridgett Floyd, who now serves as president of the foundation. “He spent his life giving back to others, and this is the best way to observe his memory and keep his legacy alive.”
The George Floyd Memorial Foundation will work to promote social change, bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement, initiate sustainable police reform and end racism while fighting for justice, the release states.
