At Issue: June 19 — With special session off the table, talks shift to upcoming state elections

There will not be a special session for the Minnesota legislature, an outcome both Democrats and Republicans are blaming on the other party. Big upcoming elections could decide how the budget surplus is spent.

Despite disagreement about spending, there has been some bipartisan work at the state and national levels. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz signed an opioid response bill that has affected the families of senators on both sides of the aisle. The January 6 panel had a third public hearing, where representatives gave insight into the threat Vice President Mike Pence faced the day of the attacks. Although a simple framework agreement has been made, a bipartisan gun control package is in the works at the U.S. Senate.
