Man found shot to death in Minneapolis apartment commons area

Authorities are investigating what they are ruling a homicide that took place Sunday afternoon in South Minneapolis. Police responded to the incident at around 4 p.m.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, authorities found a man dead with gunshot wounds in an apartment complex commons area on the 1900 block of 1st Avenue South

"This does not appear to be a random act of violence and we are following up on leads generated at the scene," John Elder with Minneapolis Police said. 

Police later arrested Derrick Dewayne Blanton, 38, who is being held on probable cause murder.Some say they've seen an increase of violence in the neighborhood. 

"No one wants to live in a neighborhood that's troublesome," neighbor Angel Maldonado said. "You kind of get used to it in a way, but it's just kind of like you don't really want to see this you know. "
