Minnesotans will be able to regain access to vehicle services with the reopening of 16 offices, with restrictions, on May 19.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Driver and Vehicle Services division announced Friday hours of operation for the stations throughout the state will be extended, particularly to offer time for road retests.
From May 19-22, these offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to conduct knowledge tests, process permit applications, and conduct motorcycle and commercial driver's license road tests. Then, starting May 26, these offices will begin offering class D road tests in addition to the previously-mentioned services.
The offices are located in St. Paul, Arden Hills, Anoka, Eagan, Plymouth, Rochester, Mankato, Marshall, Willmar, Detroit Lakes, St. Cloud, Brainerd, Duluth, Grand Rapids, and Bemidji.
The Fairmont location will reopen May 26, with a road test-only option in terms of services.
According to the DPS-DVS, "focusing on the 16 regional exam stations allows examiners to remain at one exam station and use the time they would have spent traveling conducting more tests."
Meanwhile, DPS-DVS states independently-owned and operated deputy registrar and driver's license agent offices can reopen to offer their normal driver and vehicle services beginning May 18.

DPS-DVS announced the introduction of wellness screenings for all staff and customers, to check for COVID-19 symptoms and possible exposure. Social distancing measures will also be enforced, with Plexiglas installations, floor decals and signs to encourage extra space. DVS staff will also wear masks and gloves and are requiring customers wear masks for class D road tests. Hand sanitizer will also be available.
Those with appointments at some offices can check in via a virtual lobby and can receive a text message when it's their turn at the counter.
You can find a complete list of offices and the services they offer here.
