Wild signs Minnesota native Sam Hentges

The Minnesota Wild signed a Minnesota native and St. Cloud State star on Tuesday.

General Manager Bill Guerin announced the team signed forward Sam Hentges to a two-year, entry-level contract that will start next season.

The 22-year-old was selected by the Wild in the seventh round (No. 210 overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Hentges, of New Brighton, has spent the past four years at St. Cloud State University, tallying 83 points in 114 collegiate contests.

This season, Hentges recorded 22 points (12-10=22), including six power-play goals and three game-winning goals in 20 games. He tied for the team lead in game-winning goals, tied for second in power-play goals and tied for third in goals overall.

The right-shot forward also represented the U.S. at the 2022 Winter Olympics, scoring one goal in two games.

Minnesota signed another previous draft pick last week.
