Wild ass’t GM Tom Kurvers previews best-of-5 series vs. Canucks

Wild assistant general manager spoke with our Darren ‘Doogie’ Wolfson about the playoff series vs. Vancouver that starts on Sunday, how training camp went, the upcoming 10K he’s participating in, and more.

The Wild left for Edmonton on Sunday, and will play Colorado in an exhibition game on Wednesday afternoon. They then open their best-of-5 series vs. the Canucks on Sunday night at 9:30 p.m.

Game 2 of the Wild-Canucks series is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, at 9:45 p.m. The start time for Game 3 is to be determined.

Kurvers didn’t travel with the team to Edmonton. While back here in Minnesota, he’ll help raise money and awareness in the fight vs. lung cancer.

In January 2019, Kurvers was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Kurvers spent 11 seasons in the NHL between 1984 and 1995. He was the 1984 Hobey Baker award recipient out of Minnesota-Duluth as the best collegiate ice hockey player and was a member of the Stanley Cup-winning Montreal Canadiens in 1986.

He was the interim general manager for the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2009–10 season, and worked in other capacities for Tampa’s front office. He also has been a broadcaster for the Arizona Coyotes, and scouted for that franchise.

Kurvers grew up in Bloomington.
