USWNT to play at Allianz Field in October
Allianz Field, in St. Paul, will host the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) for a match against Korea Republic in October.
The Oct. 26 match will be the final match for U.S. legend Carli Lloyd, who announced that she’ll retire from the national team afterward.
Lloyd is currently the second-most capped player in world soccer history with 312 games played for the USA and has scored 128 international goals, fourth in USWNT history. She needs two goals to tie Kristine Lilly for third all-time.
"Over the past 17 years, I’ve played in stadiums all over the world and all over the United States, but it seems appropriate that my last game will come in the area where the U.S. Women’s National Team basically started with domestic games in the mid-1980s," Lloyd said. "Minnesota has really embraced their MLS team and fans deserve such a beautiful soccer stadium. I’m looking forward to playing my last game at Allianz Field and to experiencing the awesome fans there one more time."
Tickets for the event will go on sale through a set of presales before becoming available to the general public, Minnesota United says. Season ticket members will get the first chance to buy tickets to the match at 10 a.m. on Sept. 13, followed by members of The Preserve at noon. Subscribers to MNUFC newsletters will get the next chance at 2 p.m. before presales end at 8 a.m. on Sept. 14.
Tickets go on sale to the general public starting at 10 a.m. on Sept. 15.
The USA has faced Korea Republic 13 times and has an all-time 10-0-3 record in the series.
"It’s a privilege to be able to host the U.S. Women’s National team once again in front of our fans at Allianz Field," MNUFC CEO Chris Wright said. "It’s wonderful that U.S. Soccer recognizes what an incredible venue we have for hosting our national teams for international competitions. What an incredible honor it will be to provide Carli Lloyd a memorable sendoff in front of such a passionate and adoring crowd in our home stadium. It’s yet another landmark event for our club and our community."
