The Twins have four picks in this week’s five round MLB Draft. They sacrificed a pick when signing 3B Josh Donaldson, and traded a compensatory pick in the move for SP Kenta Maeda.

We talked with Twins scouting director Sean Johnson on Monday afternoon about the atypical nature of this year’s pre-draft process, what the mock drafts are predicting, how confident they are, and more.

The Twins have picks 27 (1st round), 59 (2nd round), 128 (4th round), and 158 (5th round). After a multi-day cooling off period, like many organizations, they’ll chase some undrafted free agents. They can sign guys for up to $20K.

Locally, Woodbury native and Gophers pitcher Max Meyer is expected to go in the top-10. Johnson is a big fan, but fully acknowledges that Meyer won’t come close to getting to pick No. 27. Ramsey native and University of Jacksonville pitcher Trent Palmer also has a good shot to get drafted, although Johnson said it’s unlikely to be by the Twins.
