Time names Maya Moore as one of its most influential people of 2020
Time magazine has named Minnesota Lynx star Maya Moore as one of its ‘100 most influential people of 2020.’
The magazine made the announcement Wednesday.
"Moore has brought the same skill and determination that has made her one of the best basketball players in the world to her advocacy," the magazine wrote.
Moore helped lead the Lynx to four WNBA titles and then put her career on hold last season to turn to criminal justice reform.
Moore helped overturn the conviction of Jonathan Irons, who had served 23 years of a 50-year sentence stemming from the non-fatal shooting of a homeowner in the St. Louis area when Irons was 16.
A judge threw out Irons’ conviction in March, citing a series of problems with the case.
After his release, Irons and Moore married in a ceremony over the summer.
