Reports: Twins agree to deal with free agent starter J.A. Happ
The Twins have a verbal agreement with free agent starter J.A. Happ, per multiple national reports. It’s a 1-year deal worth $8M, pending the passing of a physical.
"Jay" is the pronunciation on Happ’s first name.
Happ, 38, finished with a 2-2 record and 3.47 ERA in nine starts for the Yankees in 2020. His $17 million option for 2021 was declined by New York.
Happ has pitched 14 seasons in the major leagues, and the Twins will be his seventh team. He was an All-Star in 2018 with Toronto.
The Twins’ rotation features Jose Berrios, Kenta Maeda, and Michael Pineda slotted presumably above Happ.
