After finishing state runner-up in 2018 and 2019, the Minnetonka girls tennis team is poised to win a championship this year. They were in a position to do so last year, finishing undefeated, before the Covid-19 pandemic shut down the state tournament.
The Skippers are once again undefeated, having knocked off perennial power Edina earlier this month. They also beat Eden Prairie, 7-0, this week, with KSTP Sports in attendance.

Minnetonka is led by No. 1 singles player Sarah Shabazz, one of the favorites to win an individual state title. The Elvestrom sisters, Annika and Karina, and No. 1 doubles standout Kelsey Phillips, are also back.
The Skippers’ coach is Brent Lundell, who’s in his first year. He took over for long-time coach Dave Stearns, who tragically passed away last December.
