Gophers volleyball coach announces final season with team
The University of Minnesota has announced that long-time volleyball coach Hugh McCutcheon will be leaving the program after this season.
During his 11 seasons as head coach, McCutcheon has led the Gophers to a record of 265 wins and 71 losses with three appearances in the Final Four.
Athletic Director Mark Coyle remarked that “Hugh [McCutcheon] is a respected leader in volleyball, the coaching profession and in our department” and thanked him for his “tremendous” contributions to Gopher volleyball.
McCutcheon will defer questions about the decision until the end of the season, the University said in a statement.
At the end of the season, a nationwide search will begin to find a new head coach.
In the interim, current Associate Head Coach Matt Houk will step into the role.
The Gophers take the court next on Wednesday at Iowa. Their next home game is on October 22 against Purdue.
