Gophers lose wrestler Brayton Lee for season
Tuesday, the University of Minnesota wrestling team announced All-American Brayton Lee will miss the rest of the season due to injury.
Lee suffered an injury in Friday’s dual against Ohio State.
“We’re obviously heartbroken for Brayton that he won’t be able to compete this postseason,” head coach Brandon Eggum said in a statement. “Nobody loves to compete more than him and he was having a fantastic season, but our primary concern for him right now is to get healthy so that he can come back stronger next season.”
The redshirt junior was 16-2 on the year, including seven wins against ranked opponents. He was among those considered a title contender in the 157-pound field.
The two-time All-American finished sixth in last year’s NCAA Championships and holds a career record of 55-14.
The Gophers say Lee will undergo surgery in the offseason and is expected to make a full recovery for next season.
