Gophers basketball coach Johnson reflects on new additions and previews what’s to come

Gophers men’s basketball coach Ben Johnson met with reporters on Thursday. The main talking points: adding point guard Ta’Lon Cooper and forward/center Dawson Garcia via the transfer portal, how name, image, likeness is going so far, and what he’s still hoping to add to his roster.

Johnson has multiple open scholarships, but alluded to the idea of not using all. He is looking for a combo guard, and sources tell KSTP that Dartmouth transfer guard Taurus Samuels is visiting campus Thursday and Friday.

Johnson’s players just wrapped post-season workouts, and now will take a break for finals. The team will reconvene in early June to begin summer workouts.

One way or another, Johnson is looking at having four new starters next season. The only carryover is forward Jamison Battle.
