The Gophers men’s basketball team picked up a big-time 2023 recruit last week. Cam Christie (Rolling Meadows HS, Ill.) became coach Ben Johnson’s first 2023 commitment. Previous 2023 commitment forward Kadyn Betts (Pueblo Central HS, Col.) recently reclassified and will join the team later this month.
Christie is the No. 1 2023 player in Illinois, ranked No. 143 overall in the country according to 247sports. He chose the Gophers over top offers from Northwestern, Marquette, Iowa State, Missouri, Michigan State, Ohio State, Illinois, and others. Villanova and Gonzaga started to show interest in the last few weeks.
KSTP Sports caught up with Christie on Monday.
