All traffic lanes of Interstate 94 in Monticello and Albertville have reopened after a major crash in Monticello Thursday morning. The crash occurred at 9:15 a.m. and kept lanes shut down for several hours.

According to an update from the Minnesota State Patrol, firefighters worked to extinguish the fires created by the crash on the interstate near Highway 25.

Twenty-nine vehicles were involved in the crash, half of them were semis. Poor visibility and challenging road conditions due to a snow squall made travel difficult in the area at the time of the crash.

Nine people were transported to the hospital with what appear to be minor injuries.

Several drivers left the scene before first responders arrived. The Minnesota State Patrol is asking for those drivers or anyone else with information regarding this incident to contact them at 320-223-6666.

State patrol reports one of the semi-trucks was hauling tractor tires. Cleanup continues, the state patrol reported late Thursday afternoon, with oil and debris remaining on the road.
