One Washington County school may be forced to close after the land it’s on is being sold.
The future of River Grove Elementary school in Wilder Forest near Marine On Saint Croix remains uncertain.
Last week, the Wilder Foundation, which owns the land the school sits on, approved an agreement to sell the property to a non-profit for summer camps and winter retreats.
Upset parents have started a petition asking Wilder Foundation to reconsider its sale of the property.
“As far as Wilder goes just asking questions about an organization that promotes itself as here for good is literally their tag line, we don’t understand the good in what they’re doing,” Drew Goodson, with River Grove Elementary, said.
The school says through a group it made an offer on the land but it was rejected.
The Wilder Foundation says the group’s value of the property was significantly less than the appraised value and wasn’t accompanied by an offer on the land.
