Vikings name Gary Kubiak new offensive coordinator

After three seasons removed from a head coaching job, the Minnesota Vikings announced Thursday Gary Kubiak would be taking over as the team's offensive coordinator after Kevin Stefanski left to take a head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns.
KSTP Sports confirmed the news from the team. Kubiak spent the 2019 season as the Vikings assistant head coach and offensive advisor. He was heavily credited with importing the familiar run-scheme that dominated his stints as head coach in Houston and Denver.
Moving Kubiak to offensive coordinator should ensure another big year for Dalvin Cook and should play well with Kirk Cousins' play-action game, according to NFL.com.
Kubiak, 58, was the head coach of the Houston Texans from 2006 to 2013 and helped the Denver Broncos win a Super Bowl in his run as head coach from 2015 to 2016.
The Vikings also parted ways with defensive coordinator George Edwards after the 2019 season. That role could be split between defensive line coach Andre Patterson and linebackers coach Adam Zimmer, head coach Mike Zimmer's son.
