UPDATE: St. Paul police take armed person into custody
St. Paul police took an armed person into custody Friday after a negotiation process.
A KSTP crew at the scene near Rice Street and Larpenteur Avenue reported seeing law enforcement officials standing at a perimeter surrounding one person during the negotiation.
Crime scene tape had been strung up in the area.
Police said officers were called to the intersection initially on a report of an assault at about 11 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. Officers applied a tourniquet and called medics to the scene. He was taken to Regions Hospital and his condition was not known, police said.
A short time later, officers said they learned another person was in the area armed with a gun and threatening violence against himself and others.
Officers worked to evacuate bystanders from the area and inside nearby businesses.
A SWAT team and a crisis negotiation unit were at the scene, police said.
St. Paul police asked people to avoid the area amid the negotiation process.
A KSTP crew reported law enforcement officials began leaving the scene once the armed person was in custody.

At about 12:30 p.m., the male with a gun was taken into custody without incident. Officers will continue to process the scene.
