We celebrate the birth of our nation on this 4th of July holiday.
A day that means something different to every one of us. Immigrants bring a different perspective on the freedom we enjoy.
About a decade ago, Kostiantyn Korchak moved to Minneapolis from Ukraine.
On this holiday, he sees the United States more as the divided states.
“People not trying to work together and find the common ground and things like it used to be,” Korchak said. “As far as I understand American history, it used to be better than this back in the day and it’s very hard to see. Something people should think about is how to be more humble and care about each more because life is too short.”
As his family in Ukraine faces the Russian invasion, Korchak says that war should serve as a reminder and make us all thankful for what we have here.
