Stearns County correctional officer assaulted by inmate, treated for injuries
A Stearns County correctional officer was treated at a hospital after being assaulted Thursday.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said correctional officers were in the process of locking down inmates at the end of evening meal when 26-year-old Joshua Daniel Peterson refused to lock down.
While officers attempted to gain control of Peterson and return him to his cell, Peterson punched an officer in the face. Several officers responded and took control of Peterson, securing him in a cell.
The correctional officer was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released.
The case remains under investigation.
