State lawmakers visit Hibbing to discuss Minnesota gun laws

Tuesday, state lawmakers from both parties are headed north to discuss new gun control proposals. 

The discussion is setting up another round of intense debate surrounding this controversial issue when the legislative session begins next month. 

The Senate Public Safety Committee is headed to Hibbing to hold an information session on a number of proposals which would change current gun control measures. 

The proposals from the GOP-controlled committee include making it legal to carry a firearm without a permit and clarifying the laws for someone who shoots another person in self-defense.

DLFers from the public safety committee will hold a news conference with gun control advocates. 

Efforts to tighten gun control laws have failed during the last couple of sessions.

No decisions will be made by either side but the conversation is going to be a big issue when the session starts on Feb. 11.
