Multiple sources confirmed to KSTP that a St. Paul police officer has been fired in connection to a shooting Saturday night that injured a man.
On Tuesday, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension identified the officer as Anthony Dean.
The sources cite the investigators’ belief the suspect was unarmed at the time of the shooting as the reasoning behind the officer’s termination.
During a press conference Tuesday, St. Paul Police Chief Todd Axtell said the force used by Dean was not "reasonable or necessary."
Axtell confirmed that he had taken "serious action," but declined to cite what that action was due to state law.
Authorities also identified the man injured in the shooting as 31-year-old Joseph Javonte Washington.
According to the BCA, Washington has been charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping and one count of second-degree assault in connection to an incident that occurred before the shooting at the home of a victim in Lakeville.
The BCA says the vehicle Washington and the victim were in later crashed near the intersection of Rice Street and Maryland Avenue West at about 7:55 p.m.

Washington then broke into a home, which prompted the homeowner to call 911. He was later found in a dumpster by officers searching the area.
According to the city of St. Paul, at some point, Washington climbed out of the dumpster and ran toward officers, who then deployed Tasers and a K-9 in an effort to stop him. Dean then shot at Washington, striking him twice, according to the city.
The BCA says no weapons were found at the site of the shooting or in the dumpster.
The BCA identified the officer who deployed the K9 as Officer Colleen Rooney, and the officer who deployed his Taser as Officer Jacob Peterson.
Two more officers that were involved in the incident will be identified after interviews with the BCA.
