Multiple 911 callers reported flames on the first and second floors of an apartment building near the corner of North Snelling and Van Buren avenues, according to Deputy Chief Melquist. Upon arrival, crews saw heavy flames and smoke.
The fire began on the first floor, then spread into the second and extended up to the roof, Melquist said. Extra engines were called to the scene. The fire was mostly knocked down by 7:40 p.m.
The two-story taxpayer building was unoccupied at the time.
No injuries were reported.
The fire’s cause is unknown at this time and is under investigation by St. Paul Fire and police.
