South St. Paul man sentenced for 1991 murder

A South St. Paul man was sentenced Monday in connection to a 1991 murder.

Donald Jenkins Jr. was sentenced to 32 years (385 months) at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility for the murder of Belinda Thompson. He was given credit for 2,236 days, or about six years.

Police: South St. Paul man arrested in connection to 1991 murder

Thompson, who was 20 at the time of her death, was found in the bedroom of her south Minneapolis apartment on Dec. 19, 1991. Police said Jenkins was an acquaintance of Thompson’s boyfriend.

Jenkins was arrested in 2018 after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension conducted additional testing of evidence found at the scene.
