Snowstorm hits southern Minn., snow-rain mix expected in the metro early next week

Parts of southern Minnesota faced significant snowfall and slick road conditions Friday morning.

Hubbard Broadcasting sister station KAAL-TV reported parts of the region picked up between 2-6 inches of snow, with a few locations seeing snowfall over the 6-inch mark.

Many school officials reported delays and closures Friday.

KAAL reports Minnesota Department of Transportation snow plow drivers were out early Friday morning to try and clear the snow but faced difficulties with rapid snowfall at times.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota State Patrol reported troopers responded to 20 crashes from 5-10 a.m. Friday.

In the Twin Cities, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Meteorologist Chris Reece reports flurries and drizzle are expected Friday.

Looking ahead, Reece says a large storm is expected to move across the Midwest and has the potential to drop a mix of rain and snow early next week.
