Police investigating homicide in downtown St. Paul
Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Friday morning in downtown St. Paul.
Just after 9:30 a.m., a 911 caller requested a welfare check on a woman who lived in an apartment on the 300 block of Cedar Street, St. Paul Police Sgt. Mike Ernster said during a press conference.
St. Paul Fire Department paramedics responded to the apartment and found the woman deceased. They found signs of trauma on her body and called police.
Homicide investigators are trying to determine what happened and who could be responsible, police said. They were still on scene as of 6 p.m. Friday.
According to police, the building where the homicide occurred is a “challenging” apartment complex. Ernster said police have been called to the apartment complex 292 times since the beginning of the year.
There are still many questions police are working to answer. If you have information that could help, call 651-266-5650.
This marks St. Paul’s 30th homicide of the year — Ernster said this number is on pace with the number of homicides last year at this time.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will identify the woman and her cause of death.
