Minneapolis police have confirmed a 9-year-old girl who was shot nearly two weeks ago has died.
Trinity Ottoson-Smith was shot on May 15 while playing on a trampoline with her friends on Ilion Avenue. Police say the suspect was driving down the alley when they fired at a residence, striking the girl. No one else was hurt in the shooting.
According to John Elder, a police spokesperson, Ottoson-Smith died at North Memorial Medical Center just after 4 p.m. Thursday.
"For the last 12 days, that child has fought for her life," he said. "And today, that fight ended."
Ottoson-Smith was one of three children to be shot within a matter of weeks in north Minneapolis.
Between April 30 and May 17, 10-year-old Ladavionne Garrett Jr., Ottoson-Smith and 6-year-old Aniya Allen were shot.
Aniya Allen died from her injuries last week.
Elder said tips have been "pouring in" on all three cases.
"We have gotten a great number of tips," he said. "I don’t know if that is because of the enhanced reward or the sheer shock and horror of having three children ages 6, 9 and 10 all shot by gunfire."
Sunday, a $30,000 reward was announced for information leading to arrests in connection to the three shootings.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account in Ottoson-Smith’s name.
