A 2-year-old boy is in “critical but stable condition” after suffering a gunshot wound to the face, the Minneapolis Police Department reported Monday.
According to the department, officers responded to the 1500 block of LaSalle Avenue around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a child bleeding from the face.
When officers arrived, they found the boy and provided medical aid until he could be taken to a nearby hospital.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed the boy was staying with a family member who is not a parent when the incident happened. Officers said they were provided limited information as to how the gunshot wound happened.
Forensic experts from the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division collected evidence at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have yet been made, police said.
