Minnesota State Fair looking to hire 2,300 workers before fair begins

The Great Minnesota Get-Together is less than 60 days away and hopes to fill more than 2,300 jobs in that time.

Right now, the Minnesota State Fair is working to fill two different types of jobs:

• Summer positions: 30 openings to help before the fair begins.
• Fair positions: 2,300 openings to help with the 12 days of the fair.

“We’re hoping that it will look very good for the fair, but at this point, we just don’t know,” State Fair spokeswoman Danielle Dullinger said about the hiring forecast.

She said all jobs are paid — even the internships. Pay starts at $10.25 per hour, with positions paying as high as $15 per hour.

Open positions include ticket takers, sanitation, park and ride, and even helping with livestock.

“We can anticipate that everyone is in the same boat, as you’re hearing from everywhere it’s hard to hire, so we anticipate that it will be a challenge this year,” Dullinger said.

This worry is not uncommon right now. Industries across Minnesota are having trouble filling jobs. In a recent conversation, with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), officials said teenagers are stepping up to help fill those voids.

The Minnesota State Fair said people as young as 16 — or old as 100 — can apply.
